Social Anxiety

Do I Have Social Anxiety?

Do you find yourself feeling a sense of dread or a knot in your stomach when know a social situation is approaching?  Do you make a point of avoiding social situations when possible? Do you worry that others are  judging you unfavorably in social settings?  If so you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone.  Social anxiety is much more common than you may realize.  Approximately 15 million Americans report suffering from social phobias.

Most people suffer from social anxiety at some point in their lives during social situations such as a first date, meeting new people and having to perform or speak publicly.   While these kinds of social situations often ignite feelings of anxiety, it's important to know when that fear becomes debilitating.  Some symptoms of social anxiety are blushing or sweating, hand trembling, nausea,  light headedness, rapid heart beat or shortness of breath.  Some people feel a sense of detachment or that they are looking in from the outside.

The good news, is that there are effective treatments to help you reduce or eliminate your fears entirely.  Statistics show that most people who suffer from social anxiety do not seek treatment due to feelings of shame or embarrassment and a belief that help for this problem does not exist.  If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we can help.  We use proven strategies with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness therapy to help you identify the types of situations that trigger your anxiety and the thoughts and behaviors reinforcing the cycle.  We help you to leverage your strengths and move towards the life you want.
