People often ask me why I chose to become a counselor. I have always wanted to give back in some way and for me, counseling seemed like a natural fit.
I grew up in New York and have lived in Pennsylvania for the past 30+ years. I earned my Masters Degree in counseling from Immaculata University with a BA from City University of NY, Brooklyn. I have trained in relationship counseling, dual diagnosis, trauma treatment, crisis counseling, grief and loss, anxiety and depression treament. I use Cognitive therapy, and look to the work of Glasser and Rogers in treating anxiety, depression and working with grief and loss and relationship issues. I also use reality therapy, family systems therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques.
Counseling is more than a job, it is a committment to helping. I am humbled by the people who share their experiences and allow me a window into their lives. As stories unfold, pain, strength, purpose and wants emerge. Together, we work through issues to identify any roadblocks to change.
We all come with a unique set of experiences, needs, family backgrounds, cultures and genetics. We all want to be heard and understood. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all answer to happiness. It is defined by each of us with personal goals and needs. I help people examine their thinking, give honest feedback and perspective and guide them towards their goals. Through this process, we uncover how thinking directs behavior and how choices are made based on what we think we deserve.
Some of my interests are individual counseling, parenting skills, relationship counseling, brain injury and neuroscience. The professional organizations I am a member of are the Brain Injury Association of Pa, the Pennsylvania Counseling Association and the American Counseling Association.
Throughout my years of work, I have found that I am always learning from the people who come to my office. Working in this field has been a gift. I hope to always give back for the priviledge of working in a field I love .
